Things to do in Durham (North East of England)

Where is Durham?

Durham is a city based in the North-East of England. The city of Durham is well known for its infamous Norman cathedral which has been the home of Durham University since 1832. Surrounding areas of Durham include: Sedgefield, Coxhoe, Trimdon, Seaham, Stanley, Bishop Auckland, Hartlepool, and Peterlee.

Why Visit?

Durham is an outstanding city which boasts spectacular views. It is one of the few cities which has it’s own coastline. The coastline itself stretches 14km which is home to the likes of Dalton Park and Seaham harbour.

The centre piece of Durham City Centre is a prime example of our ancestors. Step right in through the gargoyle doors and see the final resting place of St Cuthbert and home the fourth-ranked bishop in the Church of England hierarchy. Durham Cathedral has been used to shoot various exterior and interior shots of Hogwarts!

Durham is also known for its theatre – with multiple locations throughout the region such as The Gala Theatre, you are sure to pin point something to tickle your fancy!

Make sure you check out Beamish museum, because this is an open-air museum that allows you to be transformed back in time. With a full town, farm and pit village, colliery, railway station, you can treat your loved ones to a history lesson they will not forgot! (They do the best traditional fish and chips too, which comes wrapped in Newspaper –  traditionally cooked on a coal fired range with beef dripping)!
