One of the questions we get asked the most is “what’s the difference between a flyer and a leaflet?”. Lots of people use the words for the same thing, and to be honest most printers do too! But there is a difference, and knowing it can help you pick the right product and save some money.
What Is A Flyer?
A flyer is a single, flat sheet. It can be printed on one side or both, and it’s usually used for something quick and punchy, like a promotion, an event or a new opening. Flyers are great for handing out, pushing through doors or leaving on a counter.
Because they’re simple, they’re also the cheapest way to get your message in front of alot of people.
What Is A Leaflet?
A leaflet is usually folded. That fold gives you more panels to work with, so there’s room to actually explain things. Menus, price lists, service guides and event programmes all work really well as leaflets.
The fold also gives your content a natural order. People see the front first, open it up for the detail and then find your contact details on the back.
So Which One Do You Need?
- Got one message? Go for a flyer. Keep it bold and simple.
- Need to explain your services or prices? A folded leaflet gives you the space.
- Want people to respond? Try perforated flyers with a tear off voucher, customers love bringing something back to claim there discount.
A Quick Tip On Paper
If your flyers are going through letterboxes in big numbers, a thinner paper keeps the cost down. If they’re being handed to customers or left on a counter, go a bit heavier, it feels better in the hand and says more about your brand. A thicker leaflet on a customers table looks far more professional than a flimsy one.
